May News May News Important Date: Lake George Boat Trip – May 24th Your children deserve a big pat on the back for putting a tremendous amount of effort into doing their best on both the NYS Math and ELA tests. It has been a challenging couple of weeks but they worked hard and managed to stay on task for the 70 minutes required each day for the different portions of the tests. I’m proud of each and every student as I could see that they were truly trying to do their best, THAT IS WHAT REALLY MATTERS IN THE END! I will be changing up the normal homework routine to give the kids a little more flexibility in this beautiful spring time weather. I want all of my students to join the Fitness Challenge for the month of May. I have given each of them a Fitness Log to record what activity they do for exercise each day. I have offered this to them instead of the regular reading packets which come home on Mondays and Thursdays. I ask that all of my students continue to read at least 20 minutes per night (Mon.-Thurs) and record it in their reading log. Two nights a week, I will be sending a reading response paper home (Mon. and Wed.) for them to complete. On the other two nights (Tues and Thurs) you will see math review sheets. Hopefully, this will allow your child to get out and enjoy springtime sports and other activities. We recently launched a new unit in Social Studies. The kids are really excited to learn all about the country of Italy. We’ve already completed the reading of Pompeii Buried Alive which all of the kids were quite interested in. We will be learning about the traditions, customs, and celebrations of this country just as we did with China earlier in the school year. In math, we have moved through area and perimeter and are now on our way into some geometry concepts. This unit of study is always one that the kids enjoy. Please keep your child studying the multiplication and division facts on a regular basis as they will continue to be tested on them weekly until the end of the year. Once again, if you have any questions or concerns, always feel free to contact me.
