1. GED Instruction in the WSWHE BOCES Region
Welcome to "In Search of Success"! The purpose of this blog is to mine information that will be used to fulfill the requirements for my Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR) research project. I began as a GED instructor last year. The aspect of this position that is most striking to me is the extremely limited opportunities we have for professional discourse with one another. When that is coupled with a dearth of scholarly work that targets GED instruction specifically, you have the beginnings of a relatively interesting research proposal. Many of the people who will be asked to participate in this three phase project have many more years of experience in this particular field of instruction than do I. Many instructors have been very successful as they prepare their students to sit for the exam - what are your best instructional strategies? Approximately how much time per day do you use for mathematics instruction? Approximately how much time per week do you use for reading, writing, science and social studies? Do you assign homework? What is your instructional day like? What time do your students arrive? How many hours a day do you see your students? Do you receive students into your program on specific dates or on an as needed basis? What is your content certification? Are you responsible for obtaining all of the necessary paperwork for testing accommodations?
