This week we honor a four-year starter and a tennis juggernaut as our athletes of the week.
First up is senior Alex Varney. He is a four year starter on the varsity boys soccer team, who coach Jerry Kilmartin said continues to challenge himself every game.
“His level of performance is solid and beyond most student-athletes with a unique skill,” said Kilmartin. “This kid can perform a throw-in least halfway across the grid and tallied two assists with this skill.”
Varney is a two-time captain on the boy’s squad. Kilmartin said Alex will be sorely missed next season.
Next up is Skye Krehbiel. She is a senior on the girl’s tennis team. Coach Hayley Leclaire said Skye is a reliable force on the court, recently making it to the second round of the sectional tournament.
When she’s not crushing her overhand serve, Coach Leclaire said Skye is a force in the classroom too. She is part of the New Visions Health Careers Exploration program, and is active in several extra-cirricular clubs.
Congratulations to both of this week’s winners!
