Backpack program continues with community effort

The Hudson Falls Central School District has been fortunate enough to continue to receive donations from the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, as well as hold building food drives to keep our backpack program’s food supply well-stocked.

In conjunction with the community donations, Hudson Falls Middle School math teacher and varsity wrestling coach Mike Prendergast organized the sale of Hudson Falls face masks as a fundraiser for the program. With sales from approximately 400 face masks, the district was able to purchase 180 gift cards: [sixty] $10 gift cards to Fire Rock Restaurant (at the Kingsbury National Golf Club). The restaurant included an extra $5 per gift card, so community members will have a $15 gift card towards takeout or delivery from Fire Rock; the district also purchased [sixty] $10 gift cards for takeout at Mandy’s Restaurant; and [sixty] $5 gift cards to Twin Scoops.

Stewart’s has generously continued to supply milk and egg cards and Hannaford has provided hundreds of bags to make contactless delivery possible throughout our closure.

We are so grateful to have these businesses as well as our district staff, especially the transportation department, maintenance team, backpack program coordinators, support staff, administrators and volunteers to help deliver these much-needed supplies to our families.
