Updated summer school mask guidance

Dear Tiger Family:

We hope that your summer is off to a great start and you are enjoying some time relaxing.  It is with great excitement that I share the following information concerning the adjustment of masking policies and protocols here at school.

As many of you are likely aware the NYS Department of Health has provided additional flexibility to school districts on mask-wearing, I am writing today to let you know that based on this flexibility, as well as the fact that there continue to be very low rates of infection and transmission in Washington and surrounding counties, and the fact that we have far fewer students in our schools this summer, beginning on Tuesday, July 13,

  1. Masks are now optional for our students (vaccinated and unvaccinated) in any of the programs (academic or clubs/camps) that are being run in our schools this summer.
  2. Unvaccinated staff must continue to wear masks while in any of our buildings.
  3. Students and vaccinated staff may continue to wear a mask while attending our programs in our buildings. Please help your child understand that some of their classmates and their parents will make this choice for their own comfort and/or out of medical necessity.
  4. Students and staff on our school buses must continue to wear masks based on the federal directive.

As we receive answers to our questions on the newest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) that was issued on Friday, we may consider additional adjustments to our health requirements for the summer and will notify you if we do so.

Finally, please remember to keep your child home if they are ill or have symptoms of illness.

Should you have any questions on this information, please email us at questions@hfcsd.org

Thanks very much for continuing to work with us to keep our students and staff safe and healthy.

**Please note: the above information applies to the 2021 summer session only; additional guidance regarding the 2021-22 school year is expected later this summer.
