2020 Intermediate School T3 Grading Information

Please know we understand this has been an extremely challenging time for individuals and families in all aspects of life, not just a student’s education. We recognize that there is no one-size-fits-all or completely appropriate approach to reporting on student cognition and achievement during our third trimester and school closure. The staff of the Hudson Falls Central School District at the elementary level offers this reporting as purely informative to parents, as it is not based on the assessments built into our regular school year.

In grades 1-5, we will continue to use our standards-based grading system. Students will receive a performance of a 1-4 based on trimesters 1 and 2.

Please understand that this 1-4 designation is not the traditional grade that would have been received while school was in session and all curriculum was covered. This is based on student performance during the shutdown under our current circumstances.

Any work done during the closing will do two things. It will generate a grade for 3rd trimester for feedback purposes, and it may be used to increase grades for trimesters 1 and 2.

Due to the circumstances brought on to families during this public health crisis resulting from a world-wide pandemic, these grades will not negatively affect student academic standing. Student awards that are based on academic designation have also been suspended for the 2019-20 school year. Again – this reporting is solely intended to be informative regarding student gains from the education put forth during the third trimester.

Designations reflect the following:

4: Student was consistent in working on-line and through teacher supplied curriculum, demonstrating understanding of all content covered and skills taught.

3: Student was mostly consistent in working on-line and through teacher supplied curriculum, demonstrating an understanding of most content covered and skills taught.

2: Student was inconsistent in working on-line and through teacher supplied curriculum, inconsistently demonstrating understanding of the content covered and skills taught.

1: Students did not work on-line, or understanding unable to be gauged due to lack of participation.

Apart from English Language Arts and Math, subjects will not be reported upon based on standard, and may only offer comment based reporting as applicable. You will notice that these fields will be designated as “NA.”
