Talking HF Tigers 12/2

A new month always provides new opportunities and the possibility for new outlooks, but December is particularly special. It holds so much potential to celebrate and uplift our community through the holiday season. It also provides some beloved staples in a school year – parent-teacher conferences and concerts!

K-5 Parent Teacher: Progress and Gains

Next week provides a wonderful and welcomed opportunity for our K-5 families. There are very few things more satisfying than hearing how your child is learning and growing. K-5 Parent-Teacher Conferences are Dec. 6-9. I strongly encourage you to take full advantage of this one-on-one meeting time with your student’s teacher. This is your opportunity to hear specific feedback, information, and thoughts about how your child is growing as a learner and as a person.

But it is also a time to ask questions. Think in advance of one or two things that you would like to ask about your child, but otherwise do not get the opportunity. I also suggest asking what you can do at home to further support your student’s progress. This doesn’t always or even have to mean homework help. It can be ways to express encouragement and support to build your child’s confidence.

Music To Our Ears: Concerts Every Week!

Dec. 8 kicks off weekly concert opportunities for all walks of the community to come and enjoy. I encourage you to make sure the schedule is shared far and wide with family, friends, neighbors and anyone else in Hudson Falls. Our students work hard under the caring direction of our music program staff to put on these performances. The more in the audience the merrier!

The Dec. 8 Winter Concert from 7:30-9:00 pm in the HS auditorium showcases the 7/8 Band, HS Band, Orchestra, and Chamber Winds. Check out the Winter Concert Schedule to plan your attendance!

Also Music to Our Ears: Thanksgiving Week Attendance

In our last Talking Tiger Nov. 18, before the Thanksgiving Week Break, I encouraged families to take attendance on the “two day school week” seriously. And you did. Our data shows across K-12 that the attendance each of those two days was similar to our daily average for the current school year. I offer my congratulations. And please know, if your child is having any issue that is contributing toward decisions to stay home, such as anxiety, reach out to the counselor at your school for support.

We are seeing changes in behavior that are resulting in more students “showing up,” but we all have more work to do. Thank you for the role you are playing in this team effort!

Families in Need this Holiday Season

Whether it is your own household or you know of a family who can benefit from some extra support during this holiday season, please use the information in the 2022 Holiday Brochure. Some agencies require appointments so be sure to sign up as soon as possible. I will feature in the next Talking Tigers what we as a school community will be doing to collect many wintertime and holiday items.

Community Hours for the Fitness Center Return!

The Fitness Center is again open to community members Tuesdays and Thursdays 6-7:30pm. Any HFCSD resident 18 years old and up is eligible to use the center.
