April 10th Superintendent Goewey Update

Dear Families,

As you may be aware, Governor Cuomo has extended our closure and announced this week that schools will now be closed through April 29. We will continue to instruct and support our students and families through this time.

Instructional Resources

Our teachers have been in contact with students and their families to provide instructional materials and will continue to do so throughout this extended closure in accordance with the district’s plan for continuing instruction. Additional resources can be found on our website.

Extending Quarter Three

We realize the transition to online education has been difficult. To help out, we are extending quarter three until April 17th for grades 6 through 12 to give students and teachers a little more time to complete all their work. We will mail report cards by the end of this month.

Those report cards will look a little different. We will be simplifying what grades look like for the time being. Students will find their range of grades in the comments sections and will be described as Exceeding, Meeting, Approaching/Not Meeting, or Incomplete. Mr. Tezanos and Mr. Bennefield will communicate this to their students in more detail.

Regents Exams

The New York State Education Department (NYSED) has canceled the June 2020 Regents exams and has announced that students will be able to earn diploma credit for courses without taking these exams. More information about the details of these requirements will be provided to affected students in the days ahead.

School Budget Vote and Board of Education elections delayed

New York state school budget votes and board of education elections will be delayed until at least June 1, 2020, according to an executive order released by Governor Andrew Cuomo on Monday, March 30, 2020.

The order specifically says, “Any school board, library board, or village election scheduled to take place in April or May of 2020 is hereby postponed until at least June 1, 2020, and subject to further direction as to the timing, location or manner of voting for such elections.”

We will continue to share updates with our community as they become available. Please continue to take care of yourselves and set aside some time to enjoy that sunshine!

Sincerely,

Linda J. Goewey
