Talking HF Tigers 10/28

Hello Tiger Families!

This is a special edition of our Talking Tigers, focusing on our much anticipated Capital Projects work. It is important that we all understand the impacts and outcomes so in addition to reading this week’s newsletter please check out our video highlighting the improvements headed to #TigerTown.

Between now and Sept. 1, 2023, substantial capital improvements will be made at our high school, as well as very important upgrades at our other school buildings. But with this work happening during the school year, there will be some inconveniences. The keys are going to be patience, support, and understanding. Because, the long-term enhancements to the student experience are going to make it worth it!

High School Main Entrance

The High School’s main entrance is now closed. All students and visitors are accessing the school through the gym entrance and the security monitor desk is relocated to the hallway off that entrance. The main entrance is being rebuilt into a secure vestibule. We can look forward to this redesigned area again being home to our current security monitor desk area, as well as the attendance office.

High School Auditorium

The Auditorium will close shortly after our December concerts and remain closed until the start of the 2023-24 school year. The improvements planned are astounding and will make the space a place of community pride for performances and events. From ceiling to flooring, walling to lighting, and seating to sound booth, our auditorium will be completely rebuilt minus the stage and curtains which were renovated in the last 10 years. These improvements make it one of the two main showpieces of the Capital Construction Project.

High School Library

The other showpiece of the Capital Construction Project is our High School library. The Library will also be closed until the start of the 2023-24 school year. There have been no major renovations to this pinnacle academic space since 1955.

We can look forward to the team room at the east end of the library being incorporated into the new library. The current west end of the library will become a flexible use space with a slider wall. While the library’s current space is closed for renovations, it will be relocated to another area of the high school so students can still access the staff and materials they use regularly. We will update you on the temporary location soon!

High School Restrooms

Three sets of the restrooms will be renovated and upgraded. Only one set will be closed at a time to minimize inconvenience, but students may have to travel to different areas of the school to use a restroom while the work is completed between now and September 2023.

Middle School Entrance

At the Middle School, the main entrance will undergo a similar closure as the high school so a secure vestibule can be built. The temporary entrance will be on the east side of the building. This is the same side of the building families use for parent drop-off and pick-up.

The process for gaining access to the building will remain the same. Please use the intercom system at the East Side door entrance to communicate with the front desk monitor, who will be there to support you.

Across the District: Cameras, Pipes, New Roof

The scope of the work at the other schools is smaller, but no less important.

While the installation of security cameras, upgrades to pipes, and a new roof at the high school will not drastically affect the student experience but are still important upgrades. Secure vestibules will also be built at the other school buildings with construction estimated for the summer months.

While this week’s focus was about filling you in on the exciting changes coming to our buildings around the district, we hope to see you at the Trunk or Treat and Varsity football game on Saturday!

Sincerely,

Dan Ward, Superintendent
