COVID-19 School Closing Information

5/1 Update:

Governor Andrew Cuomo has ordered that all New York schools remain closed for the rest of this school year. We are heartbroken that we won’t get to see your faces in person until the fall, but we understand that this is a necessary decision for all of our health and safety. We will continue to support our students with learning resources through this extended closing.

Superintendent Goewey Updates:

Breakfast and Lunch

We are serving a bagged grab and go breakfast and lunch for any student. Breakfast pick up is on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at the Primary School between 7:45 am and 8:30 am and lunch pick up is between 11:45 am and 12:15 pm on those days. If you can’t get to the Primary School, please call School Nutrition Services at (518) 681-4118 for delivery.

Campus Closing
We have been advised to shut down access to our playgrounds and fields. Effective immediately, we will not allow the use of the campuses.

Childcare
We know the extended closing is difficult for families balancing work and home life. If anyone needs childcare help, please fill out this form, and we will connect you with the Southern Adirondack Child Care Network.

Additionally, the New York State Office of Child and Family Services has great resources for families.

Free Books
Free books are available for any student that would like them outside the main entrances of our Kindergarten Center, Primary School, and Intermediate Schools.

After reviewing all recent information from the Centers for Disease Control and with the full support of Washington County, the Hudson Falls Central School District will be joining the other 30 districts in the WSWHE BOCES region and canceling classes and all school events and activities on and off campus through April 19, 2020, as a result of the COVID-19/Coronavirus. Please be aware that at this time there are no confirmed cases of the virus in our school community.

The district is approaching the closing with the following priorities:

  1. Ensuring that we are PROACTIVE with the health and safety of our community.
  2. Helping our community cope with the closing of the school district by addressing basic needs such as providing free meals to any enrolled student.
  3.  Plan effective starting Tuesday, March 17. Please refer to this letter from our Nutrition Services for the details.
  4. Plans to encourage student learning for the duration of the closure.

Health and Safety
We recognize that this news will be concerning to many of our students and families. We ask that medical questions be directed to your family doctor/healthcare provider. During the closing, if you or one of your family members tests positive for COVID-19/Coronavirus, please contact the district office and be certain to notify public health.

A district-wide closing means that all Hudson Falls CSD school activities and events, including sports practices, are canceled.

Academic Planning
Teachers continue to post work to their Google Classrooms as well as to our Google Site. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions about these resources or are unable to access them from home.

Families should expect to receive ongoing information about staying connected throughout this closure.

Out of District Placed Students
We will not be transporting private school students and students with special needs, whose placement is outside of the district, while Hudson Falls is closed.
This situation is constantly evolving. The district will continue to evaluate the situation next week and determine the next steps as we continue to help mitigate the community spread of COVID-19/Coronavirus. Please stay tuned for updates as the next week unfolds. We will be communicating with families via email and posting information on our district website at www.hfcsd.org.

Please know, as always, the health and safety of our students and staff is our highest priority, and we will remain vigilant in our efforts to help prevent the spread of this illness.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time.
